Lila Turjanski-Villard

Since the very first day I started making sculpture, I have always been fascinated by the human figure and its suggestions. Some years ago, I began to develop a great interest in the stylization of human figure which gets realized in the use of various materials including paper and wire.

The sculptures are mainly made of paper and wire. Pieces of paper are glued together around the core structure which generate the specific texture of the surface. The sculptures are painted and then coated with a protective sealer.

My creative process starts with the manipulation of the materials. This generates certain visualization of shapes and space which conducts me to an idea or image. The paper adds texture. Therefore, there is an interaction among space, shapes and texture to create the final sculpture.

The completion of the piece is in the interpretation of the viewer once it becomes independent of my creative process.
